Now and Then is a light love story about Emma and Cole. Emma is 3 years younger than Cole has been crushing on him since she was a teen living next door to him and stuck in her older sister’s shadow.
Like some 10 years later the literally run into each other in a coffee shop and the sparks FLYYYYY…..of course the do right?!
It’s a cute story and I like that in MOST aspects Emma seems strong and independent…except when it comes to her sister. This one quirk really swallowed a lot of the stories potential. It was EXHAUSTING…..
Cole “dated” Emma’s sister when they were KIDS…..through some lies and the embellished mind of a teenager the reality of the “relationship” got built it up from more than what it was. Layla, Emma’s obnoxious sister didn’t help the situation…but neither did Emma by keeping everything so quiet.
Layla makes her intentions of going “after” Cole very clear, however it is ALSO clear that this isn’t a love connection, more of a conquest…..
Emma STILL moves forward with Cole...knowing this…..
Cole gives Emma A LOT of reassurance of his feelings and intentions for HER ALONE and yet she STILL always goes back to the issue of HER SISTER…and I kind of just wanted to yell at her “shit or get off the pot woman!” ….I mean you either get over it or you don’t….If you are SO CONCERNED about your SISTER then WHY are you pursuing this at all? GROSS.
I understood Cole’s frustration, especially when the truth of it all really comes out.
Other than that, it progressed at a good pace, hit all the marks and was light and quick. The drama was minimal, the characters had some depth to them so it wasn’t completely cardboard. I don’t know if I’ll continue with the series, but this book served its purpose and though it wasn’t my favorite it wasn’t BAD either. (The cover just looked so enticing...I went for it!)
